Celebrate Parenting
Parenting Awareness Month Indiana (PAMI), is an annual month-long celebration that acknowledges and pay tribute to people raising children in Indiana and calling attention to the need for effective and responsible parenting and parent education to preserve and advance the wellbeing of Hoosier children and their families.
The first celebration was held in April 2007 in Gary, Indiana with support of Mayor Clay, the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc., LoveFeast COGIC, and the Gary Community School Corporation. In 2008, Governor Daniel, Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, Mayor Clay, and State Senator Earline Rogers issued proclamations of support for PAMI.
PAMI continues to spread throughout Northwest Indiana and other Indiana communities.
The goal of the program is to call attention to the need for effective and responsible parenting to protect the wellbeing of children and families in Indiana and reduce the many adverse health and social outcomes from ineffective and impractical parenting.
Each year since PAMI began, the Indiana Parenting Institute, Inc. (IPI) has collaborated with and engaged businesses, schools, churches, organizations, state, and local agencies in coming together to acknowledge the vital role parents perform in raising children to become productive citizens of our communities and society given the opportunity to reach their full potential through effective and responsible parenting.
